Availability of Civil Pre-Trial Dates in the Central East Region
Dear NCLA Members,
On behalf of The Honourable Mark L. Edwards of the Superior Court of Justice, see the below memorandum from Regional Senior Justice Michelle Fuerst dated March 16, 2018.
As provided for in the Practice Direction, civil cases in the Central East Region proceed to a pre-trial conference once they are certified ready for trial by the filing of a Trial Record. Counsel are required to contact the Trial Co-ordinator in the centre where the action is outstanding, to book a pre-trial conference date that is agreeable to all counsel. Counsel then record this date on the Pre-Trial Conference Confirmation Form, and transmit it to the Trial Co-ordinator within seven days of booking the pre-trial conference date.
All counsel are advised that pre-trial dates in the various centres in the Central East Region are available on a number of dates during March and April, 2018. Cases confirmed to be trial-ready by the pre-trial judge will be added to the May 2018 trial sittings list. Trial time remains available on the May 2018 trial sittings list.
In the event counsel are unable to agree on a pre-trial conference date but wish to book a pre-trial, counsel should arrange a telephone conference call with Justice Mark Edwards. Justice Edwards can be reached through his assistant Ms. Massey at 905-853-4834 extension 6332.
